Is the Grand Canyon the Biggest Canyon in the World?

If we’re talking about the length of the canyon, then yes, the Grand Canyon is definitely one of the top contenders. It’s about 277 miles long (446 kilometers) from north to south, and about 18 miles wide (29 kilometers) at its widest point.

If we’re talking about depth, though, then no—it doesn’t even make the top ten list for deepest canyons in the world.

There are other canyons that are bigger than the Grand Canyon—the Yarlung Tsangpo Canyon in Tibet is considered one of the deepest canyons in the world at 7,918 meters (26,335 feet) deep—but none compare to its beauty and grandeur. So there you go!

Is the Grand Canyon Part of the 7 Wonders of the World?

The Grand Canyon is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.

The Grand Canyon was actually created by a series of events, not just one big event like some people think. It’s true that a massive flood filled up the canyon, but there was also a lot of erosion and digging done by water and wind over hundreds of thousands of years.

The Grand Canyon is one of the most visited tourist attractions in the world, so it’s no surprise that many people think it is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. But there are some who disagree with this classification.

Why Is Grand Canyon So Famous?

There are actually a lot of reasons why Grand Canyon is so famous.

For one thing, it’s an incredible natural wonder. It’s so big! You can’t even believe it when you see it for yourself. The Grand Canyon is 277 miles long, up to 18 miles wide, and over 6,000 feet deep—that’s more than twice as deep as the Empire State Building is tall!

Another reason why Grand Canyon is famous is because it’s home to some unique wildlife. There are coyotes and javelinas (which are like skunks) living there now, but there used to be bison and elk too.

And then there’s the fact that people have been coming here for thousands of years to explore this beautiful canyon. People have been coming here since before Europeans arrived in the Americas (which was around 1492).

What Is the Best Month to Visit the Grand Canyon?

The best month to visit the Grand Canyon is October.

It’s not too hot, but it’s also not too cold. The weather is typically mild and comfortable during this time of year, with daytime temperatures in the low 80s and nighttime lows dipping into the mid-50s.

The crowds are smaller than they would be during peak season (June through August), but it’s still plenty busy enough for a good time!

How Many Days Does It Take to See the Grand Canyon?

How many days does it take to see the Grand Canyon? You may be surprised by what we found.

For example, how long do you want to stay in the Grand Canyon? A day trip is an option, but if you’re going to be in the area for more than a couple of days, we recommend staying overnight and waking up early the next morning to see it in the morning light.

If you’d like a longer visit, consider staying at least three nights—two nights will give you time to explore iconic locations like Bright Angel Trail and Phantom Ranch as well as some lesser-known spots (we recommend taking time out to hike down Havasu Falls), while four or five nights will allow you plenty of time for hikes with less crowds.

Another variable is what kind of activities you plan on doing during your visit. If all you want is just a quick look at the canyon from an overlook point, then one day should be enough.

But if you plan on hiking into it or rafting through it, then two days would be better; some people even prefer three days so that they can see both sides of the canyon from different vantage points.
